New Art to Celebrate Sustainer Campaign Launch

New Art to Celebrate Sustainer Campaign Launch

New Art to Celebrate Sustainer Campaign Launch

Sep 25, 2018 | Posted by Madison Forker |

This past week, CASS was thrilled to debut our new poster art during our “Art Against Street Harassment” event. The night was full of story sharing from folks who spoke out about the need to implement the Street Harassment Prevention Act, decriminalize sex work, decriminalize fare evasion, increase access to public restrooms, and add housing status as a protected trait. Thank you to all who joined us!

Art Against Street Harassment event

Designed in collaboration with Baltimore artists Maura Dwyer and Evan Mahone, the posters advocate for these key elements of our policy platform as we kick off our sustainer campaign.

Stop arresting sex workers for what they do to survive

GiGi Thomas, a DC-based Black trans human rights advocate, was put on trial for taking the actions she needed to survive.

Everyone deserves access to housing and public restrooms

Jennifer McLaughlin is with the People for Fairness Coalition. She’s a currently an advocate for issues facing people experiencing homelessness, and she’s on the frontlines of advocacy to increase access to public restrooms, make housing a protected trait, and ensure that everyone has access to housing.

Everyone deserves access to public transit

Diamond Rust was accused of fare evasion and attacked by an undercover cop on the W4 bus in February. She’s a DC mom and at the time she was still a high school student with a DC One Card, which allowed her to ride public transit for free. In the attack, the police officer fractured her knee and broke 4 of her teeth.

With these posters, we are proud to continue our tradition of featuring real people from the D.C. area in our art. These are real issues with a real impact on our community, and we are honored to tell their stories.

With these posters, we’re working to spread the word and advocate for our new policy platform which includes implementing the Street Harassment Prevention Act (SHPA), decriminalizing sex work, decriminalizing fare evasion, increasing access to public restrooms, and making housing status a protected trait.

We need to staff up to sustain this exciting work, and we need your help. From now until September 30, we’re inviting you to join our Collective Action Circle of our most loyal supporters.
