“I’m 50; I Guess It Never Ends”: Harassment on Capital Crescent Trail

Jan 8, 2016 | Posted by User Submission |

Location: Capital Crescent Trail, Bethesda, MD
Time:  Daytime (9:30am-3:30pm)

On December 31, 2015 around 12:30 pm walking alone southbound on the Crescent Trail, a distinct, rough-looking, white (larger than a Jeep but smaller than a Hummer) vehicle with 2 men driving on the adjacent service road stopped to leer at me. They drove 30 feet past me and recklessly and loudly slammed on the vehicle’s brakes and stopped. They quickly reversed the vehicle car all the way back to me, and the passenger leered again. The passenger was in their 40s with a long (4-5″) full, bushy brown beard and small knit winter hat (perhaps bald) with dark eyes, who leered at me.

I was on the phone, and I told my friend about White vehicle and that I was very frightened. He was not a whistler, although he was quiet, they exhibited menacing, threatening behavior. I feared he would get out. There is a short chain link fence in that area right before ramp to tall bike overpass, which I believe goes over River Road- you can put air in your tires to left of that overpass. I prayed for a biker to go by, and one did just as I quickened my walking pace and the ramp started, which would allow me distance from the car.

I will never walk there alone again
, and I will carry pepper spray. I’m 50; I guess it never ends. If possible try to photograph the license plate or person and text to someone- I couldn’t process it all quick enough to do this as I thought I was going to need to run. Be safe.
