"I Was Groped on DC Metro"

“I Was Groped on Metro, And The Men Around Me Just Laughed.”

Location: Red Line to Shady Grove between Union Station and Judiciary Square
Time: Morning Rush Hour (5am-9:30am)

On an insanely crowded red line this morning, people insisted on pushing into the car. I was surrounded by men on all sides. The first touch was against the back of my thigh, high enough up under my skirt to give me pause, and it felt like someone was scratching my legs. The second touch was higher, two fingers on the inside of my thigh moving up and down. I shouted “Who the fuck is touching me” and the man in front of me got indignant and laughed. But the man behind me got defensive, explained that nobody was touching me, that it was only his bag. (How did he know I was referring to being touched from behind?) The other men around me laughed and I got off at Judiciary Square.

When I got to my stop I started to ask the Metro employees about how to report but started crying and walked away. I’m so angry.
