“It’s ugly out there!”

Home My Streets, Too “It’s ugly out there!”

“It’s ugly out there!”

I walked off the Shaw/Howard Metro stop, minding my own business, and two guys started to follow me. They were just hitting on me, pretty par for course in my neighborhood, so I put my Ipod in and let it go. A block and a half later, I turn around and they’re still there. Now (since I’ve been ignoring them) they’ve taken to calling me a bitch and screaming that my ass is too flat. I’ve never stood up to catcalling before, but this was aggressive, so I sort of cracked and started screaming at them to fuck off. They eventually left me alone, but not before trying (again) to get my number or some shit.

I got home and was completely shaky–which I thought was overreacting on my part, because I’m pretty used to general harassment that comes my way. When I talked to my roommate about it, she pointed out that it was literal sexual harassment and I should have taken their pic and sent it to the police. Good point. It’s ugly out there!
