Harassed by Young Women

May 10, 2011 | Posted by User Submission |

I observed the harassment but felt the need to share it because the harassers were two women in a car at a busy intersection light. I was eating lunch outside. I was visiting the Tudor Place and took a break to walk up Q St and turned left on Wisconsin. I stopped at a market sandwich place across from a yogurt store.

I observed two young women with their car windows down at a stoplight. One yelled out the window to a young woman walking across the street, “I like your purple purse.” It seemed harmless enough but she kept yelling out the car window when the young pedestrian was at the corner and looking uncomfortable. The women in the car continued to shout at pedestrians as they crossed the intersection, including yelling at men. People looked uncomfortable but tried to ignore them.
