On the evening of March 18, after 11:00 pm, I was walking home from the Friendship Heights metro west along Western Avenue, about 1.5 blocks from the metro, when I heard footsteps behind me and then felt a hand up my skirt touching me on my genitals. The man, an African American in his 20s-30s with close cropped hair and a little taller than me (5’8″ maybe) came around to my side and said something, like he was talking sweet to me.

I thought he was going to pull me off into the bushes by the Geico building and rape me. Luckily I had my wits about me and starting screaming and running away. Cars stopped to help, and the DC police came and took my report. It turned out that the man had fled when I was trying to stop cars to help me. Because it happened so quickly I could not give the police a fuller description of how the man looked besides what I am stating here. Please if you live in this neighborhood, be careful, or if you have had something similar happen anywhere in the city, please post here and call DC police and speak to Detective Carmichael. He has not been found yet.
