All I wanted to do was get to work.

While I was riding my bicycle to work, I was verbally harassed and threatened by a man driving an ICON cab. I was stopped in the bike lane at Q St. NW and New Hampshire Ave. NW waiting for the light to turn green when a car pulled up on my right side in the turning lane. I heard him cursing and saying awful things towards me which became more vicious and included him calling me a “bitch” and saying “I should fuck you up.” I didn’t looked at him for fear that it would incite him more and I’d already heard more than enough. When the light turned green, he swerved into the bike lane, cutting me off, before turning right onto 18th St. As he was turning, I noticed the “ICON” text on the cab’s bumper, but was too focused on getting away from him to think about looking for his specific cab number.

“I’m not on display for you!”

I was riding my bike down 14th street wearing a jumper esque dress (not that what I was wearing really mattered/made it okay) and a man shouted “I can see your pussy!” I stopped my bike and walked over to the corner where the shouting occurred and confronted two men, but they said that it wasn’t them and that they don’t do that. Who knows if they were telling the truth. Totally disgusting. I can ride my bike in whatever clothing I want to, I’m not on display for you, thank you very much!

Mind your own business.

I was eating lunch at a cafe in the outdoor seating area. A bike messenger came up to our table and said to me and my friend “I just have to say that you ladies look wonderful.” I don’t want random people coming up to me at lunch to tell me that! Mind your own business!

Harassed on my Run

Yesterday afternoon I was going for a run in a my neighborhood.  I noticed a guy who kept circling back on his bike to leer at me. Then he stopped and just sat there and stared as a ran down the street.  I wasn’t about to stop in the middle of my run to say anything so I just kept going.  He went on his way and left me alone for the rest of my run.

Groped by a Guy on a Bike

On Thursday December 2, 2010 at approximately 6:30 pm, I was running west on Lee Highway, toward the George Mason intersection, when a male on a bicycle came up behind me and grabbed my butt. He was wearing dark clothing, perhaps a black puffy coat, and unfortunately that’s all I noticed of him as he rode by me. I believe he was the same person on a bike who I ran past a few minutes earlier, in which case he is younger (teens to 30s) and of smaller build. It was most disconcerting to me that the guy did this on a major street, during one of the busiest times of the day.
