“He wouldn’t stop…”

I was walking up 11th Street, on my way to yoga, when a man in a black car pulled up next to me and rolled down his window. At first, he was just yelling out, “Hey baby!” but after I kept ignoring him, he started commenting on my butt and suggesting what sexual acts he’d like to perform on me. It was disgusting. I tried to tell him to shut up and just keep going, but he wouldn’t stop. He kept following me in his car up the street. I told him to just drive away and asked if he’d talk to his mother like that, but his harassing talk got even worse. Finally, I threatened to call the police and charge him with harassment, and that’s when he drove away. I wish I took a picture of him and his car, to publicly shame him.

So glad you were able to talk to him while not feeling threatened, that he backed off with the threat of police action, and that you got a picture. I had a really similar experience this morning, but my hands were full, I started to feel threatened, and wanted to stop engaging him before I thought to mention the police or the fact that no, he actually doesn’t have “the right” to say whatever he wants to anyone. Thanks for sharing your somewhat more triumphant story.
