“Where’s your holiday smile?”

I was walking around near my office at lunch time and this man asking for change said “Where’s your holiday smile?!” (this was Friday before Labor Day weekend). I was so annoyed–whether or not I smile while walking down the street is none of his business!!!

I suspect this person works near me. If she does, she’s referring to the same man who asks everybody, including me (a male South Asian), “where’s your holiday smile.” This is not street harassment, it’s white antagonism; nothing more than an indigent black man solliciting money from a presumably well-dressed, upper-middleclass white woman.
