“I felt kinda icky for the rest of the day.”

I was walking out of my house to go to work – it was early and the weekly trash collection was that day. As I turned onto the sidewalk from my walkway, the garbage truck pulled up, the man collecting my trash stepped off, and in a very casual way said to me, “I’ve always wanted to fuck a woman with short hair. “By the time I realized what he’d said, he was gone. Just like that. Needless to say, I just felt kinda icky for the rest of the day.

I’m sorry you had to experience this. It’s astounding how just a few short words strewn together can have suck an awful impact and leave us feeling violated and gross. I feel ya.

I would like to suggest that you report this employee to the city. I’m not sure how you would go about finding the proper channel, but I’m sure a basic google search could point you in the right direction. This is a city employee representing Washington, DC civic services, and I would imagine (or at least hope) his employer would would take this seriously.

Even though you don’t know his name, you know his route. Report him according to the location it happened (your address), and the day/time of day.

You never know what might happen. At the very least, your voice will be heard.

i once called the hauling company after being harassed by a driver, and was assured by the manager that he’d learn his lesson when he was docked a day’s pay. that felt good!
