“I want to get with you.”

While walking to an event, my shorts rode up uncomfortable. I stopped at a light to pull them down to make the rest of the walk bearable. Across the street, a man dressed in black athletic gear said something to me that sounded like “I want to get with you.”

Because I wasn’t looking at the man, I decided not to give him my attention for saying something like that. Apparently that pissed him off, because when the light changed, he passed me in the crosswalk hissing “Racist. Racist” and the accusation got louder as I walked away from him.

While I wasn’t too upset, it still irks me that refusing to be an object gets turned on me like that.
