“I don’t need a ride!”

Last Friday around 1 PM I was walking down P street towards 14th.  I was talking on my phone and I hear a taxi driver start yelling, “Hey miss” at me. I look at him but keep walking. He keeps yelling so I stop.  He asks me if I need I ride even though it is obvious that I am not looking for a taxi! I tell him, “No, I don’t need a taxi” and keep walking. He is persistent and tells me that he can take me wherever it is I need to go.  I tell him, ” I DO NOT need a ride, please leave me alone.” I walk away and don’t turn around when he continues to yell at me.  I am still on my cell phone and the person I am talking to keeps asking me if everything is okay.  If I was ever in this situation again I probably would take note of the cab number.  But I was running late and just wanted to get away from him as fast as I could.

Ugh! I hate it when the cabbies abuse their driving privileges to pick up women. Ugh!

I had something like that happen to me once. I was blocks from my house one evening and a cabbie pulls up to me and asks “Girl, what’s wrong? Need a ride?”

I snap at him, “Did I hail you? NO! Keep driving and leave me alone.” He did.

What gives them the right to use their cabs to hassle women? We need Right Rides in DC, seriously!
